Dandelion Girl

Hi all, Madge here for another wonderful Wednesday as I sit here typing I’m looking out onto the lake, which is as smooth as glass and a deep emerald color.  I’m R & R-ing………. which doesn’t mean a lot different than “retired”.  DH is out trying to catch the illustrious “big one”, which keeps avoiding his hook.
I’ve chosen to use “Dandelion Girl” designed by Sylvia Zet © Wee Stamps for Whimsy Stamps. P1010393Lora is out of this image at the moment, but if you would like it, email OCS and I’m sure she will comply.
The patterned paper background is Basic Grey "Plumeria".
Image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black, colored with Copic Markers, die cut with Spellbinders Labels One and mounted onto a Martha Stewart Border / Corner punch. Butterfly and pearls from stash.
I cut into the background paper to insert the matted image under the beautiful design of the paper. (I dislike covering up beautiful designer paper).
TWO more days and OCS will have another NEW challenge for you to enter and the chance to win “FREE STUFF”.  Meanwhile you still have a chance to enter your creation into the “Mother’s theme” for this month.

“Ed” has a problem

Hi all, for another Wonderful Wednesday.  I am giggling to myself about the stamp I chose to use.  It is one of those front / back stamps from OCS called Ed Front and Back.  I saw this stamp and thought to myself, “I know a couple of “old Ed frontgeezers” that this would be perfect for……… thus the card.   A birthday card for a friend, who is an expert fisherman, but I think he would see the humor in this. Both back and front were stamped onto Xpress It blend cardstock, colored with copic markers, cut out and mounted onto acetate.

Ed open This is one of thEd sideose cards that cannot be captured with a camera as it has an acetate front (hence the glare).  “Ed” has silver thread looped around him front and back – attached to the fish  (punch).   The background was stamped with StazOn onto glossy white,  and sponged with Tim Holtz Distress inks

Purely by accident, I was playing with the acetate and curved it outwards – then thought that it would be perfect for it to be curved for sitting upright to display……….  thus the two punches on the far right hand side of the card for the transparency to slip under.  This card was a hoot to put together – and I giggled the whole time.  I had to wait until after the Birthday to post this…….. and I’m still giggling.

Remember, “Stamp up a storm, ink up a wish and send it on to make someone smile”.

Poppies and Fairies

Hi all,  Madge here for another Wonderful Wednesday.  I have a friend who loves poppies…..and she has retired after 32 years on the job.  By the time this is posted it should be safe, as we are taking her out for lunch and surprising her with a gift certificate.  Did you know that OCS P1010337offers Gift Certificates??  A couple of hints in the right direction and you could be taking advantage of a GC from your hubby or children.

Ok, on with my card.  I made a Tri-fold Shutter card using a stamp set from the fairyopolis Flower Fairy series, doing paper tole on the image and placing it on a piece of watercolored paper.  In the center, I needed to add some stabilizer to the card, so stamped a poppy (from a Flourishes set called Poppies and Daisies) onto a transparency and glued it to the top and bottom.   This time I intentionally coated the image with Base Coat nail polish.

    P1010347

Here is the closed version of the card.  Only 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.

Hope you’ll take time to enter the OCS May Challenge for “Mothers”.

Masculine Card Tutorial and a Tip!

Hi all, Madge here with my last post for the month of April for OCS.  Today I’m going to share a (very simple) tutorial on how to make cuts in Patterned Paper to make it work with your image while also adding an element. This will also take you  Step-by-step on how I made this card.  Prepare to sit a while!
First:   Here is a little tip that I discovered while doing my nails (don’t ask!). 1 This little bottle of “Base Coat” Nail Polish is absolutely fantastic for making your black lines “POP” from your colored images!!!   - comes with it’s own little brush!!  - from the $$$ store.  AND it also adds a slight gloss and stiffens your cut image!!   WOW – all that from an 2asloppy mistake errrrr,  experiment.  Ask me how I know that, in fact the blacks became more vibrant?. . . . well, while the puddle, ummmmm,  application was drying, I screeched “OMG “ ummmm, hypothesized the abnormal change in depth of color and made a mental note to myself . . . . clumsy jerk2 . . .  phew, well that turned out ok.
OK, on with my tutorial……..  I started with this little image of Snoesjes - Snoes with Bird, from Marianne Designs – available at OCS.  This little fella really grew on me……….  I stamped the image onto XPress It Blend Cardstock, with Memento Tuxedo Black , colored it with Copic Markers and fussy cut him out.  (Sometimes a light bulb goes on, sometimes a candle flickers)  Here’s what I did to bring my card to fruition.
Next I chose some masculine papers and elements – for April’s OCS’s Masculine Challenge.  The DP paper is from an Authentique Paper Collection3
5

I sponged Tim Holtz Distress Ink, “Tea Dye” to all the papers to give a Vintage look.6

Then I began to place color blocks until I was satisfied with the result.
The red color block was positioned under the cut-out. I also penciled in “H-A-P-P-Y  B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y” onto the banner.7 8
3 Dimensional foam squares were placed on back side of image.
I added the elements, (stars, feather and twine) to the card and placed the image over the twine – placing the sentiment in between the twine to give a matted look.

11
Above, is the finished result ~  Colorful, masculine and regular postage rate thickness for mailing.  I also added papers to the inside of the card – for more “eye candy”.
Til Next Time.    “Stamp up a storm, ink up a wish – and send it on to brighten someone’s day”.

Tilda and her Bunny

Another Wonderful Wednesday and the weatherman says it will be sunshine!!  The card that I made was actually a Birthday Card for a friend who loves Purple and loves Butterflies…………  Many moons ago I thought it might be an Easter card, but it didn’t happen.  But Tilda can have bunnies any day of the year – right??
This stamp is called Tilda with Bunny and is available at OCS.  I am s-o-o-o passionate about these little Magnolia stamps.  P1010286
This is an Easel Card, which I love to do.  I even managed to do some actual STITCHING on it!!  (My sewing machine was in shock when I turned it’s light on). lol    The papers I chose are from Prima Marketing, “Sweet Fairy” collection.  I love their subtle look.   As I’ve mentioned before, I really admire people that can put patterned papers together  - when I do it looks like a dog’s breakfast.   BUT, I did it with this card!!P1010287 copy

Materials used:
Tim Holtz Distress ink  (Antique Linen)
Memento Black Tuxedo ink
Xpress-It-Blending Cardstock
Copic Markers  (from the BG and V family)
White Glaze Pen
Spellbinders Scallop Squares and Tags One
Prima Marketing, “Sweet Fairy” 6” x 6” pad
Flowers and Pearls
Diamond Glaze (Glossy Accents) (with a sprinkle of Cool Highlight Glitter

Tilda Loves Flowers

April is Birthday Month for friends and family.  I’ve been chomping at the bit to be able to put this card on my blog – but I had to wait until the recipient had it in her hot little hands.!!!
P1010289 copy
I absolutely adore this little “Tilda loves Flowers” image (Diana at Magnolia-licious, has such a great selection).  I found a smallish piece of a Basic Grey dp from the Porcelain Collection that I had been hoarding……….  and had to use it.  Pink and Green!!  Can you get anymore Spring-like??
I fussy-cut Tilda until I reached her bouquet – then – well, I mussy-cut.  LOL
It has been so-oooooo long since I’ve posted a Magnolia image -  Hope you like it.  I’m really pleased with this folds on her dress!!  What do you think?
Yup, I’m  shamelessly fishing for compliments…………. LOL

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Paper Sundaes  (anything goes)
Magnolia Stamp Lovers  (butterflies)
Wags n Whiskers Challenge (anything goes)

Bird on a Branch – Marianne Creatable

I’ve chosen to showcase the wonderful array of Tim Holtz Distress inks that One Crazy Stamper has in the store and a beautiful die from the  Marianne Creatable’s collection.  I used the Spellbinder scalloped rectangles, using the negative to blend the distress ink onto my 5” x 5” vanilla cardstock.  Masking and overlapping the stencil created the foreground / background effect.

The Bird on a Branch was cut and embossed and then I useP1010269 copyd a sponge dauber to apply ink to give the die cut dimension.  I also sponged the My Mind's Eye button and die cut to give a little dimension.  Brads, a suede cord and a sentiment were added from stash. The knot on the suede cord is called a Double Carrick knot.

April is “Masculine” month for the challenge at OCS – Can’t wait to see your creations, for a chance to win free stuff.

Wee Florist Slider Easel Card

Hi all, another Wonderful Wednesday – and it is almost APRIL – which means you only have a couple of more days to enter the March Birthday Challenge at OCS.
I could not wait to color up this beautiful little “Wee Florist” from Whimsy Stamps, available at OCS.  I chose to make a “Slider Easel Card” / aka:  Pull Tab Card aka: Hidden Message Card.  P1010258 copy P1010251 copy  The image was just so darn cute to color, I can hardly wait

to color the other ones I have not inked up yet.  SIGH – another time.
My card measures 5” x 5 1/2”.   I started with stamping “Wee Florist” onto Xpress Blend It Cardstock with  Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with Copic markers (too many to remember unfortunately).
The image was die cut with Spellbinders Labels 23, and instead of cutting a mat, I simply ran a black Sharpie around the edge to create the illusion of a very thin mat.
Papers are from Basic Grey and SU.  An MS border punch was used to create the lacy look down the sides.  Ribbon and flowers can be found in the embellishment dept. at OCS.
Take time to “Stamp up a storm and ink up a wish” and send it on to someone special.
Until next time.  ~ Rubber Hugz ~

Black, White and Pink Happy Birthday

Hi all,  Well Spring is supposedly here – right?  Here in Vernon, it’s windy and cold, snowing at night and melting by 9 a.m.  Weird!
I’m showcasing some new items that I have purchased from my absolutely favorite on-line store…………  So many toys and pretties to chose from!!
I’ve made this card for a friend, who has made it quite clear that she doesn’t like colored images on cards . . . . .  dead silence?? Well, she’s a wonderful friend and I love her just the same.
My card is a clean and simple but I got to use a whole bunch of fun elements.
Card Recipe:
  • 11” x 4 1/4” white cardstock  (scored at  5”)
  • Run 6” part through the beautiful  Marianne Designable – Vintage die -  then I Scallop embossed the edge with the Large Scallop die from the Spellbinders Classic Edges 1.
  • Scallop a pink piece ( 4 3/8” x 6”) of cardstock on the 4 3/8” edge (using the Large Scallop die from the Spellbinders Classic Edges 1
  • Repeat with a piece of black cardstock ( 41/2” x 6 1/4”)
  • Adhere Pink behind front white and the black behind inside white flap. Make sure to keep the edges equal.
  • Scraps of White, Pink and Black – to mat a small sentiment
  • Use Black Scrap to punch ferns (Martha Stewart Fern Punch)
  • Tie pink ribbon around card and tie into a bow.
  • Tuck sentiment and black fern punchies under knot of bow.
  • Add flowers of your choice – Lora has such a beautiful selection here.
  • I like to make my flowers sturdy for mailing by using Diamond Glaze – it also adds a bit of iridescent gloss.
  • I stamped the inside of my card with Tsukineko Jet Black StazOn with a beautiful flourish stamp called Lavish Flourishes by Whimsy stamps.
  • Lavish Flouish insideA row of white half pearls  (which I colored pink with copic marker R81) was added to the scallops on the front.
I’ve used a lot of different products from the OCS store.   Hope you like it.

“YETI” ’nother Birthday Card

Hi all, another Wonderful Wednesday to look forward to.  In our area, the weather can’t make up it’s mind to let go of winter or proceed with Spring – every day is a mystery!! lol

I’ve got a really quick card to show you today. P1010239 copy The image I chose is Yeti Cocoa, from OCS.  I stamped “Yeti” onto Xpress it Blend cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black, colored it with my copics, fussy cut it out and then adhered it to a transparency which I had stamped the image with StazOn ink.  I backed the transparency with blue c/s allowing allowed the swirls, steam and snow flakes that were in the background to be in the background, which I wanted blue.

Spellbinders Lables Eighteen  (largest) die was used to cut out the card front, the second largest used to cut the white inside mat which was sponged with TH Distress Ink (Stormy Sky) (my favorite color, this month).  I did some faux stitching with a white gel pen to add some interest around the die cuts and added snowflake buttons.  The ribbon at the bottom under Yeti was an “add-on” to cover up a glue blooper.

March is “BIRTHDAY MONTH” for OCS’s BLOG CHALLENGE!  Can’t wait to see your creation!  See you there!!
